HOME > About Us > Leadership > Madeline Skemp, LPCC-S, LPAT, ATR-BC

The Expressive Therapies Specialist focuses on planning, coordinating, and facilitating creative therapeutic events and initiatives to support the healing and well-being of clients referred by their clinicians, as well as fostering connection and emotional wellness among staff. By leveraging the transformative power of art and creative expression, the Expressive Therapies Specialist enhances therapeutic outcomes, promotes self-discovery, and cultivates a sense of community within the organization.

Madeline (“Maddie”) Skemp is a dedicated Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor-Supervisor (LPCC-S) and Board-Certified Art Therapist (ATR-BC), serving as the organization’s Expressive Therapies Specialist. In this role, she develops, coordinates, and facilitates creative therapeutic initiatives for both clients and staff, harnessing the transformative power of art to promote healing, self-discovery, and a sense of community. Maddie oversees expressive therapy workshops and groups, mentors clinicians practicing expressive therapies, and establishes evidence-based policies that encourage best practices throughout the organization.

Maddie earned her bachelor’s degree in Studio Arts from Ohio University and her master’s degree in Counseling and Art Therapy from Ursuline College. She is a Licensed Professional Art Therapist (LPAT) and holds certifications in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EDR) and art therapy, with extensive knowledge in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and other evidence-based treatment modalities.

Throughout her eight years in community mental health and private practice, Maddie has cultivated a creative, client-focused approach to therapy—empowering adolescents, adults, couples, and families to overcome challenges related to mood disorders, life transitions, career development, and trauma. Believing that opposing truths can coexist, she employs a dialectical framework, guiding individuals to recognize their own resilience and untapped strengths.

In her capacity as Expressive Therapies Specialist, Maddie’s responsibilities extend to staff well-being: she organizes creative workshops and expressive therapy activities that foster teamwork, alleviate stress, and nurture a positive workplace environment. She also collaborates with organizational leaders to align expressive therapy events with strategic goals, ensuring they remain inclusive, accessible, and impactful for diverse therapeutic needs.

Maddie’s approach is marked by humor, psychoeducation, compassionate listening, problem solving, and creating a safe space for vulnerability and validation. Her strengths—welcoming spirit, boundless creativity, and the ability to see the bigger picture—continue to drive her commitment to professional growth, innovation, and excellence in mental health care. By prioritizing collaboration and continuous feedback, she ensures that her expressive therapy programs not only enrich participants’ experiences but also evolve to address emerging needs within the organization and the community at large.

“The delivery of mental health and wellness services should be based on the needs of clients and the community.”
