A licensed professional counselor (LPC) is a mental health provider who holds a master’s or doctoral degree in counseling and who has met all requirements set forth by the state licensure board to provide quality mental health care.

The second “C” (LPC“C”) denotes advanced clinical experience and knowledge as required by the state licensure board that allows for independent practice (meaning, without the need for supervision).

The “S” (LPCC-“S”) denotes advanced experience and knowledge in clinical supervision as required by the state licensure board that allows for supervision of LPCs and counselors-in-training.

A Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, Level 2 (CCTP-II) has met all the training requirements in order to become specialized in providing advanced treatment related to trauma, including being able to help with post-traumatic triggers; harmful coping strategies; and overwhelming emotions, such as shame, anger, anxiety, fear, and depression.

Cynthia Cox (pronouns: she/her) is an experienced licensed professional clinical counselor supervisor who works with adults. Her specialty interests include: trauma, grief, depression, anxiety, and self-esteem. She utilizes treatment approaches that are evidence-based, trauma informed, and uniquely tailored to each client.

Cynthia completed both her undergraduate and graduate degrees at Walsh University. She earned her master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling and is working towards her supervisory designation.

Prior to private practice, Cynthia worked for two years in a community mental health facility addressing a variety of clinical issues and working as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team. She has been trained in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and is working towards certification. Cynthia is passionate about addressing the effects of trauma in her clients’ lives and working with them to improve their overall quality of life.

Cynthia’s approach to counseling is person-centered and collaborative because she believes that each person knows themselves best. She works alongside her clients to aid them in developing personal goals and provides continued support and encouragement in a non-judgmental environment. Cynthia utilizes a variety of techniques and skills drawn from evidenced-based modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and strength-based approaches.

Her strengths include: empathy, humor, genuineness, open-mindedness, creativity, and a love of learning.
