A licensed professional counselor (LPC) is a mental health provider who holds a master’s or doctoral degree in counseling and who has met all requirements set forth by the state licensure board to provide quality mental health care.

Judy Sallerson (pronouns: she/her) is an experienced licensed professional counselor who works with adults. Her specialty interests include: military issues, women and gender issues, and integrating a trauma focus into counseling practice. She utilizes treatment approaches that are evidence-based and uniquely tailored to each client.

Judy completed her advanced education at Kent State University, earning a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling. She took specialized coursework in trauma and addictions counseling, and has continued education in these areas.

Prior to private practice, Judy worked with diverse clients in school and community mental health settings. She has developed a specialized group to work with women with substance use concerns and those who have experienced involvement with Children Services. During her 22-year military career, Judy had the opportunity to support her country as a proud Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran. She has also served as the unit victim advocate, sexual response coordinator, and casualty notification officer.

Judy is patriotic and passionate about her Army career. She brings that passion forward in her continued work with veterans. Beyond her clinical work, Judy has served veterans as a Valor Court (in Stark County) and Honor Court (in Summit County) mentor and a mentor coordinator. She spends her free time with veterans whether in the community or on the golf course.

Judy’s approach to counseling is client-centered and strength focused. She is a compassionate listener and believes that clients already know everything about themselves – they just need support accessing their strengths and skills in a non-judgmental space. Central to her work is knowing that healing happens through the client-counselor relationship.

Her strengths include: kindness, patriotism, social intelligence, and the ability to see the bigger picture in life.
