A licensed professional counselor (LPC) is a mental health provider who holds a master’s or doctoral degree in counseling and who has met all requirements set forth by the state licensure board to provide quality mental health care.

The second “C” (LPC“C”) denotes advanced clinical experience and knowledge as required by the state licensure board that allows for independent practice (meaning, without the need for supervision).

A Registered Art Therapist (ATR) is a mental health provider who holds a master’s or doctoral degree in art therapy and who has met qualifying graduate-level education and training outlined by the Art Therapy Credentials Board (ATCB) to provide quality therapy and healing using media and the creative process.

Kelsey Armentrout (pronouns: she/her) is an experienced licensed professional clinical counselor and registered art therapist who works with adolescents, couples, and adults. Her specialty interests include eating disorders, trauma, anxiety, depression, and LGBTQ+ issues. She utilizes treatment strategies that are evidence-based and uniquely tailored to each client.

Kelsey earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology at Kent State University and a master’s degree in counseling and art therapy from Ursuline College. She has received specialized training in trauma-informed care and assessment, and holds the first level of certification in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR). Kelsey is currently working towards becoming a board-certified art therapist and continues to seek opportunities for professional growth to help clients achieve their mental health and wellness goals.

Prior to private practice, Kelsey worked with clients in community mental health settings for over 4 years. She has experience being part of interdisciplinary teams to provide counseling to adults with eating disorders and mental health issues. Additionally, Kelsey has facilitated groups for teens with trauma and behavioral issues. These clinical experiences have strengthened her passion to use art therapy to heal the mind and body.

Kelsey’s approach to counseling integrates dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) and art therapy because she believes that combination of talk therapy with creative arts can connect the whole person and facilitates growth. In addition to being an empathic and active listener, she is known for using creativity, humor, psychoeducation, and metaphors in sessions.

Kelsey’s strengths include being validating, creative, companionate, and non-judgmental.
