A licensed social worker (LSW) is a mental health provider who holds a master’s or doctoral degree in social work and who has met all requirements set forth by the state licensure board to provide quality mental health care under supervision.
Marlon Walker (pronouns: he/him) is an experienced licensed social worker who works with children, young adults, and families. His special interests include: helping children and young adults navigate adjustments in their lives. He utilizes evidence-based treatment approaches that are individualized to each client’s needs.
Marlon completed his undergraduate studies at The University of Akron, where he graduated with honors earning a bachelor’s degree in social work. He went on to earn his master’s degree in clinical social work also from The University of Akron. He has extensive training in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and motivational interviewing (MI). He truly enjoys having the opportunity to give back and support the community through his passion to make a difference in the lives of others.
Prior to joining Wellness Grove, Marlon has worked in a variety of settings including school-based, outpatient, and telehealth. He has also provided counseling services as a government employee at the local, county, and state levels. Marlon has gained clinical experience by providing services to a diverse age range of clients in individual, group, and family counseling.
Marlon uses a systematic approach to counseling that is person-center and collaborative. He understands that each person is different and they are the expert in their life, which is influenced by a variety of factors that work together as a system. Some of these factors include family, friends, social settings, economics, and the environment at home. Marlon understands the relationship within these systems has an impact on behavior, mental and physical health, and overall well-being. He believes in creating a safe space grounded in unconditional positive regard and understanding. Central to his approach is the use of empathetic listening and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) techniques to help clients develop healthier thinking patterns about themselves, their relationships, and the world. Marlon is known for using creativity, humor, and metaphors, and providing strength-based support in sessions to help clients reach their full potential and accomplish their goals.
His strengths include: building rapport and patience; showing warmth, empathy, and genuineness towards all clients from all social demographics; and positively impacting their experience with counseling.
