A licensed professional counselor (LPC) is a mental health provider who holds a master’s or doctoral degree in counseling and who has met all requirements set forth by the state licensure board to provide quality mental health care.

Megan (Raine) Hannum (pronouns: she/they) is a licensed professional counselor who works with adolescents, adults, and couples. Megan’s specialty interests include: girls’ and women’s issues, gender issues, career development, anxiety, and relationship issues. She incorporates strengths-based positivity and empowerment into her practice. Megan utilizes treatment approaches that are evidence-based and uniquely tailored to each client.

Megan completed her advanced education at The University of the Cumberlands where she earned a master’s of arts degree in clinical mental health counseling. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a concentration in child and adolescent development. Megan is passionate about education and has interest in further formal education in the areas of women, gender, and sexuality studies. She considers herself a lifelong learner.

Megan completed her internship in a private practice setting and has continued to work in that setting after completing her graduate training. She has experience working with a wide range of clients including children, teens, adults, and couples. During her time in practice, she has developed a passion for working with members of the LGBTQ+ community. She has also completed continuing education in the areas of intimate partner violence, trauma-informed care, and dialectical behavior therapy.

Prior to working in mental health, Megan has had a variety of service experiences such as promoting academic and social development among young children in an early childhood education setting, assisting college students with developing college success skills in student support roles, and supporting victims/survivors who received services at a domestic violence shelter by answering crisis calls. Each of these experiences has confirmed her love for working with others and led to her decision to pursue work in the mental health field.

Megan’s approach to counseling is grounded in a person-centered, strengths-based approach that is enriched by cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) techniques. She believes that people learn and grow best when they have a safe space to explore their unique strengths where they receive unconditional acceptance and empathy. Megan believes that therapy is a highly collaborative process and that her clients are experts on their own lives. She is known for being approachable, authentic, and thoughtful. She also enjoys incorporating humor and psychoeducation into her sessions.

Her strengths include: genuineness, open-mindedness, love of learning, and patience.
