A counselor trainee (CT) is a graduate counseling student seeking licensure as a professional counselor. Counselor Trainees have the same scope of practice as a professional counselor, but require much closer supervision during the training process.
Stephanie Ferraro (pronouns: she/her) is a counselor trainee who works with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. Her specialty interests include: suicide loss, girls’ and women’s issues, gender issues, adjustment and life transitions, communication and conflict resolution, wellness, trauma, anxiety, and depression. She utilizes trauma informed, relational-cultural, and feminist approaches in her counseling practice with clients.
Stephanie attended The University of Akron where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in psychology. She also received a graduate certificate in women’s studies, which is what informs her relational and intersectional feminist perspective. Currently, Stephanie is in a master’s degree program for clinical mental health counseling.
Before coming to Wellness Grove, Stephanie provided clinical services at a community-based clinic affiliated with her university. This opportunity allowed her to work with diverse individuals. Stephanie has experience in working with women, men, and young adults.
In addition to her clinical work, Stephanie advocates for the counseling profession through membership to the Ohio Counseling Association where she participated in the Leadership Certificate program. Stephanie is dedicated to personal and professional growth to ensure she provides the best care for her clients by way of continued learning and engagement with counseling treatments and modalities. In 2023, Stephanie attended the Psychedelic Science Conference in Denver, Colorado where she learned about the healing potential of psychedelic assisted therapy. Leaving no stone unturned, her quest for knowledge, love of learning, and client connection fuels her zest for life.
Stephanie’s clinical approach is relational and focuses on the growth fostering client-counselor relationship which highlights the importance of connection to the self and others, through mutuality and authenticity. She can meet the client where they are and adapt her approach based on their needs. Stephanie also utilizes person-centered, strengths-based, wellness, somatic, cognitive behavioral therapy, and mindfulness approaches.
Her strengths include: ability to connect and empathize with clients, problem-solving, and infusing humor into her counseling approach.
