A counselor trainee (CT) is a graduate counseling student seeking licensure as a professional counselor. Counselor Trainees have the same scope of practice as a professional counselor, but require much closer supervision during the training process.
Valentina Pass (pronouns: she/her) is a counselor trainee who works with individuals, couples, families, and groups. Her specialty interests include: emotional regulation, behavioral challenges, and fostering resilience in a supportive and developmentally appropriate environment. She utilizes evidence-based approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), play therapy techniques, and family therapy. Valentina is passionate about empowering children and adolescents to navigate life’s challenges, build self-esteem, and develop health coping strategies, while creating a safe and supportive space for them to express themselves and thrive.
Valentina holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Harris-Stowe State University, an esteemed HBCU in St. Louis, Missouri. She furthered her education by earning a master’s degree in psychology from Tiffin University and is currently pursuing a second master’s in clinical mental health counseling at Malone University. Valentina has completed comprehensive coursework in clinical mental health counseling related to counseling techniques, assessments, and diagnosis; developmental psychology; trauma-informed care; and ethical practice.
Valentina has spent years advocating for victims of crime and promoting mental health awareness, combining her expertise in criminal justice and psychology to support individuals in need.
She also serves as a part-time adjunct psychology instructor at Cuyahoga Community College and finds meaning in her work with the next generation of learners. Valentina is dedicated to fostering personal growth, resilience, and mental well-being through evidence-based practices and compassionate care.
Valentina has a background in advocacy, working with the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of IL from 2017-2019. She received a public service award from the United States Attorney. After relocating back to the Greater Cleveland area in 2019, Valentina worked with the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s office as an advocate on a sexual assault task force from 2019-2021 before coming to the housing court in November of 2021.
Valentina’s approach to counseling children and adolescents is centered on creating a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment. She uses developmentally appropriate approaches such as play techniques, cognitive behavioral strategies, and mindfulness, tailored to the unique needs of each client. Valentina believes in promoting a trusting therapeutic relationship; collaborating with families and schools when appropriate; and empowering young clients to develop healthy coping skills, emotional regulation, and resilience.
Valentina’s strengths include: strong interpersonal and communication skills, empathy, and the ability to build rapport with clients.
