Katie Basinger is a non-clinical intern whose interests include a strong passion for supporting women and families while advocating for mental health awareness and access to care. Katie is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology at The University of Akron with a minor in Women Studies, with an expected graduation date of May 2027. Katie plans to continue her education by pursuing a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
Non-clinical interns at Wellness Grove gain hands-on professional development experience through weekly group supervision meetings where they discuss cases, treatment approaches, and best practices with experienced clinicians.
Non-clinical interns have opportunities to interview clinicians in their areas of interest, contribute to evidence-based research and CEU content development, and explore specialized topics for publication.
Additional experiences include assisting with psychoeducational group therapy, attending community engagement and strategic partnership events, and learning clinical case conceptualization skills.
Beyond her clinical work, Katie is a Support Staff member at Camp Y-Noah, Katie has worked closely with children and adults from diverse backgrounds, providing support, fostering positive relationships, and gaining valuable insight into the complexities of family dynamics. Katie is actively involved in leadership and research at The University of Akron. She serves as President of Women in Psychology and VP Membership for CHAARG, an all-women’s wellness organization. She is also a member of The Empowerment Research Lab focused on coping mechanisms used in domestic violence shelters and examining the causes and consequences of domestic violence. Through her leadership, research, and service experiences, Katie hopes to contribute to the advancement of mental health support and empowerment for women and families.
Her strengths include: strong interpersonal communication, advocacy, creative thinking, problem solving, and empathy.
