CONTACT INFO

A counselor trainee (CT) is a graduate counseling student seeking licensure as a professional counselor. Counselor Trainees have the same scope of practice as a professional counselor, but require much closer supervision during the training process.

Alexis Esterle (pronouns: she/they) is a counselor trainee who works with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. Their specialty interests include: life transitions, parent-child relationships, intimate partner violence, current and past trauma, and anxiety. They utilize evidence-based treatment approaches that are uniquely tailored to each client to promote wellness, growth, and healing.

Alexis completed her advanced education at Kent State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in psychology. She is currently a master’s student at her alma mater completing a degree in clinical mental health counseling. Her academic training includes specialized coursework related to counseling children, adolescents, and families.

Prior to private practice, Alexis worked in a supervised visitation center for four years, working with survivors and perpetrators of domestic violence, families involved in the child welfare system, and individuals struggling with substance use. She also spent time working as a job coach and skills trainer for adolescents with disabilities to prepare them for joining the workforce.

These experiences have provided her with a robust working knowledge of working with individuals and families from all walks of life and fueled her passion for supporting people in their journeys for growth.

Alexis’s approach to counseling is collaborative and based on a belief that people experience the most growth when they are able to feel safe and supported in expressing their needs and desires. Her approach combines person-centered therapy, cognitive-behavioral techniques, and principles of choice theory. She aims to empower clients to take charge of their lives and add more tools to their tool belts. She is known for using humor, metaphors, psychoeducation, and compassion in session.

Her strengths include: cultural sensitivity, a love for learning, empathy, genuineness, spontaneity, and an appreciation for the nuances driving any situation.
