A counselor trainee (CT) is a graduate counseling student seeking licensure as a professional counselor. Counselor Trainees have the same scope of practice as a professional counselor, but require much closer supervision during the training process.
Alison Langdon (pronouns: she/her) is a counselor trainee who works with adolescents and adults. Her specialty interests include: life challenges, trauma-focused work, girls’ and women’s issues, LGBTQ+ issues, neurodiversity, shame and self-acceptance, and disability and chronic illness. She uses evidence-based treatment approaches and integrates methods to fit each client’s responsiveness and needs.
Alison completed her advanced education at Arizona State University, earning a bachelor’s and master’s degree in English. She attended the University of Oregon, earning a doctorate degree in literature. She is currently a master’s student at Western Kentucky University completing a degree in clinical mental health counseling. After more than two decades in higher education supporting students and faculty, she found herself drawn to the deeper, more personal work of healing and helping individuals navigate identity, relationships, and life transitions.
Beyond her clinical work, Alison brings personal understanding of chronic illness, disability, disconnection, and the journey toward self-acceptance.
This lived experience informs her work with clients who are navigating trauma, grief, and the challenge of inhabiting one’s authentic self in a world that may not always feel safe or accepting.
Alison’s approach to counseling revolves around helping clients reconnect with their authentic selves after experiences of disconnection, trauma, or systemic marginalization. Integrating relationship-centered therapy, mindfulness-based practices, and body-aware techniques for trauma healing, her clinical approach emphasizes the healing power of connection. She helps clients develop present-moment awareness while honoring the systemic and relational contexts that shape their experiences.
Her strengths include: deep empathy, authentic presence, capacity to hold complexity without judgment, commitment to fostering genuine connection, and willingness to accompany clients through difficult terrain with patience and compassion.
