A licensed professional counselor (LPC) is a mental health provider who holds a master’s or doctoral degree in counseling and who has met all requirements set forth by the state licensure board to provide quality mental health care.
The second “C” (LPC“C”) denotes advanced clinical experience and knowledge as required by the state licensure board that allows for independent practice (meaning, without the need for supervision).
The “S” (LPCC-“S”) denotes advanced experience and knowledge in clinical supervision as required by the state licensure board that allows for supervision of LPCs and counselors-in-training.
Ann Brandt (pronouns: she/her) is an experienced licensed professional clinical counselor- supervisor who works with children, adolescents, adults, and families. Her specialty interests include: child trauma issues, child and adult ADHD issues, autism issues in children and adults, depression and anxiety issues, and integrating creativity and positive psychology into counseling practice. She utilizes treatment approaches that are evidence-based and uniquely tailored to each client.
Ann completed her a bachelor's degree at Westminster College, earning dual majors in English and secondary education. She received her first master’s degree in educational administration at Arizona State University and her master's degree in community counseling at Youngstown State University. In addition to her formal education, she also earned certificates in play therapy and family mediation through the Ohio Supreme Court. Ann has special training in working with adolescents, adults and families in addressing addiction issues. More recently, she also completed course work to become licensed as a supervising clinician and has trained many interns and counselor trainees. Ann has taken specialty courses in childhood autism and has a strong love of lifetime learning with a focus on children and their families.
Ann worked with diverse clients in hospital, college, and community mental health settings. Over the last 20 years, she has had many unique opportunities – from developing wellness and recovery support groups, to developing a preschool socialization program for Head Start students, to teaching medical residents about mental health issues, to evaluating emergency room patients for mental health services, to evaluating children in sexual abuse cases for Trumbull county court, to being the leader on interdisciplinary treatment teams for both mental health and drug and alcohol programs – that have contributed to her passion for helping others and her clinical approach.
Beyond her clinical work, Ann has been the family coordinator for Mahoning Couty family court and developed parenting plans for families going through the divorce process. She also worked as a consultant for the Jefferson County Head Start program to address the needs of autistic students. As a part of her commitment to service to her community, she also serves on the leadership team for Jefferson, Trumbull and Columbiana County mental health and drug and alcohol coalitions and was a member of the Beaver County Mental Health Board. She has developed and conducted several professional workshops on various mental health issues for clinicians and medical residents. These roles fulfill her calling to educate and inspire.
Ann’s approach to counseling is relational and emotion-focused because she believes that personal growth is the result of empowering connections that are rooted in safety, authenticity, vulnerability, and mutual respect. In addition to being a non-judgmental, compassionate listener she is a collaborative strength-builder and problem-solver. She is known for using humor, storytelling, psychoeducation, metaphors, and the creative arts in sessions.
Her strengths include: kindness, strong sense of ethics, a love of learning, dedication, creativity, social intelligence, and the ability to see the bigger picture in life.
