A social worker trainee (SWT) is graduate social worker student seeking licensure as a professional social worker. Social Worker Trainees have the same scope of practice as a professional social worker, but require much closer supervision during the training process.
Catherine Lee (pronouns: she/her) is a social worker trainee who works with adolescents, adults, and older adults. Her specialty interests include: anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and neurodivergence. She utilizes person-centered, strength-based, and trauma-informed approaches that are evidence-based and adapted to each client's unique needs.
Catherine completed her advanced education at The University of Akron, earning a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a minor in sociology alongside a gerontology certificate. She is currently a master’s student at Cleveland State University completing a degree in social work. Catherine's graduate training has strengthened her knowledge on evidence-based approaches, providing culturally competent care, and taking a trauma-informed approach.
Prior to joining Wellness Grove, Catherine gained valuable experience working primarily as a case manager with individuals ranging from children to older adults. She also worked with the Stark County Board of Developmental Disabilities, supporting teens and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Through these experiences, Catherine developed a strong passion for advocacy, empowerment, and helping individuals reach their full potential.
Catherine's approach to counseling is person-centered and strength-based. She strives to create a supportive and welcoming environment where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered. She incorporates elements of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) to help clients identify and challenge unhelpful thought patterns, develop mindfulness skills, and strengthen emotion regulation. She believes the most vital aspect of her work is the therapeutic relationship as it lays the foundation for success.
Her strengths include: empathy, kindness, collaboration, and an eagerness to learn.
