A licensed professional counselor (LPC) is a mental health provider who holds a master’s or doctoral degree in counseling and who has met all requirements set forth by the state licensure board to provide quality mental health care.

The “S” (LPCC-“S”) denotes advanced experience and knowledge in clinical supervision as required by the state licensure board that allows for supervision of LPCs and counselors-in-training.

The second “C” (LPC“C”) denotes advanced clinical experience and knowledge as required by the state licensure board that allows for independent practice (meaning, without the need for supervision).

Christy Ward (pronouns: she/her) is an experienced licensed professional clinical counselor who works with adolescents, adults, and couples. Her specialty interests include: working with first responders and supporting their families, trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, addiction, ADHD, integrative and positive psychology. She uses evidence-based and holistic approaches in working with clients.

Christy completed her advanced education at The University of Akron, earning a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling. She strives for a continuation of learning throughout life through professional development trainings as well as her own self-development journey.

Prior to private practice, Christy has worked with diverse clients across multiple settings. These include in a hospital setting focusing on trauma, a substance use treatment facility, and a K-12 school setting. Among the approaches that she has used in these settings are dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and motivational interviewing (MI). Most recently, she was trained and is passionate about utilizing trauma focused-cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT).

Christy works from a person centered and strengths-based approach to counseling. She believes that clients are the experts of their own lives and given a safe, caring, and non-judgmental environment, clients possess the ability to facilitate their own growth and change. She is passionate about helping clients explore and challenge their self-limiting core beliefs in an effort to make the changes they are seeking.

Her strengths include: an optimistic attitude that everyone can make positive changes in their lives, open mindedness, empathy, and being non-judgmental.
