The second “C” (LPC“C”) denotes advanced clinical experience and knowledge as required by the state licensure board that allows for independent practice (meaning, without the need for supervision).
A licensed independent chemical dependency counselor (LICDC) is a chemical dependency professional who holds a master’s degree or higher in a behavioral science and who has met all requirements set forth by the state licensure board to provide quality chemical dependency counseling.
Crystal Snyder (pronouns: she/her) is a skilled licensed professional clinical counselor and independent chemical dependency counselor who works with children, adolescents, adults, and families. Her specialty interests include: adult attention deficit disorder/executive function deficits, girls’ and women’s issues, disturbances in eating behavior, self-esteem issues, relapse prevention for substance use issues, and boundary setting in families who are impacted by addiction. She utilizes an eclectic approach that places an emphasis on building a trusting client-counselor relationship because she believes each client has unique needs and goals.
Crystal completed her undergraduate work at Heidelberg University in Child and Adolescent Psychology and was actively involved on campus with her sorority’s (Delta Sigma Chi) fundraising and pledging program. After earning her degree, Crystal attended Walsh University for graduate school and earned her master’s in Counseling and Human Development with an emphasis on Mental Health.
Prior to Wellness Grove, Crystal has served as a counselor in community mental health and private practice for over ten years. Within the community mental health setting, she has a strong background with programs designed for substance use recovery for first-time felony offenders. Among her leadership experiences were facilitating groups, providing recovery education, and working alongside other providers to ensure that clients received quality care.
During her last two years in private practice, Crystal has focused on her passion for working with adults struggling with executive function issues and unhealthy relationships with food. She is an ADHD Certified Clinical Services Provider and continues to receive continuing education in the area of eating disorders. Central to her clinical work is the belief that balancing the mind, body, and soul is essential for wellness and success.
Crystal’s approach to counseling is rooted in building a therapeutic alliance. She creates space for clients to openly share and explore their inner world, and then collaboratively uses this information to co-create personalized goals and objectives for wellness. Crystal is a firm believer that each client has control in shaping their destiny. In counseling sessions, she focuses on building strengths and skills to promote a sense of empowerment using various hands-on techniques and assignments. Crystal is known for her authenticity, openness to feedback, dry humor, healthy reframing of disempowering thoughts, empowering mottos and mantras, book recommendations, and commitment to her client’s journey.
Her strengths include: being non-judgmental, a strong commitment to continued learning, flexibility, promoting self-awareness, and genuineness.
