A licensed professional counselor (LPC) is a mental health provider who holds a master’s or doctoral degree in counseling and who has met all requirements set forth by the state licensure board to provide quality mental health care.

The “S” (LPCC-“S”) denotes advanced experience and knowledge in clinical supervision as required by the state licensure board that allows for supervision of LPCs and counselors-in-training.

A certified dialectical behavior therapist (C-DBT) has met all training requirements in order to become specialized in providing advanced treatment and services rooted in this approach that emphasizes managing and regulating intense negative emotions, and is especially helpful for issues such as depression, anxiety, self-harm, suicidal ideation, trauma, and substance use issues.

David Carroll (pronouns: he/him) is an experienced Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor-Supervisor who works with children, adolescents, adults, and families. His specialty interests include child and adolescent issues, trauma recovery, self-harming issues, social anxiety, LGBTQ+ experiences, adoption issues, depression, and career development. He utilizes evidence-based treatment approaches uniquely designed to fit the needs of each individual client.

David completed his bachelor’s degree in psychology at Ohio State University. To further his expertise, he earned his master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling at the Ashland Theological Seminary. Throughout his career he has continued his training specifically in the areas of trauma recovery, crisis response intervention and child and adolescent issues.

David has over 15 years of experience working in mental health and childcare, with over six years as a licensed therapist. David has worked in various settings including residential, school, and community mental health providing individual, group, family, and crisis therapy. He is certified in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), an evidence-based approach used for helping individuals manage intense emotions related to a variety of issues including self-harm, interpersonal issues, trauma reactions and personality disorders.

He began specializing in child and adolescent treatment after seeing an increase in self-harm and suicide in this population.

Over the past six years David has honed his passion for working with children and adolescents. He has served as a supervisor and mentor to new clinicians beginning their journey as therapists, helping them achieve independent licensure status. In his free time David volunteers his time as a martial arts instructor for underprivileged youth.

David’s approach to counseling is rooted in building a strong therapeutic relationship and helping the client maximize their potential while learning to be independent. David tailors each client’s treatment to help them meet their individual goals. He encourages clients to build autonomy and independence while utilizing humor, authenticity, active listening, psychoeducation, narrative, solution focused, and strength-based interventions.

His strengths include authenticity, genuineness, calmness under pressure, and relatability.
