Working Hours

A counselor trainee (CT) is a graduate counseling student seeking licensure as a professional counselor. Counselor Trainees have the same scope of practice as a professional counselor, but require much closer supervision during the training process.

Emerson Roth (pronouns: she/her) is a counselor trainee who works with young adults, adults, and older adults. Her specialty interests include: self-esteem, communication and conflict resolution, anxiety, relationship issues, perfectionism, and girls' and women's issues. Emerson utilizes humanistic and strength-based treatments, which include warmth, empathy, support, and unconditional positive regard tailored to each client.

Emerson completed her advanced education at Cleveland State University, earning a bachelor's degree in social work, along with a minor in women's and gender studies, with honors. She is currently a master's student at John Carroll University completing a degree in clinical mental health counseling. Her training includes specialized coursework in motivational interviewing, clinical diagnosis and psychopathology, trauma-informed care, and multicultural competence.

Prior to joining Wellness Grove, Emerson worked at a residential treatment facility. There, she worked closely with clients struggling with a myriad of concerns including substance use, eating disorders, and homelessness. She also has experience working in intensive outpatient treatment programs involving group counseling sessions. In this setting, she worked with clients who faced challenges such as family stress, financial hardship, and barriers that created limited resources. These experiences strengthened her abilities to approach clients with empathy, patience, and understanding.

Beyond her clinical work, Emerson works in the restaurant industry and is a member of the John Carroll University chapter of the counseling honor society Chi Sigma Iota.

Emerson's approach to counseling is humanistic, strength-based, and solution-focused. She believes that clients hold strengths, and her role is to help clients recognize their hidden potential. Utilizing adaptive therapeutic styles, her clinical work is grounded in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Adlerian, strength-based, solution-focused, and humanistic approaches, among many others. She also draws from mindfulness-based practices to help clients build self-compassion, find meaning, and move toward a more balanced and fulfilling life.

Her strengths include: creating a supportive environment where clients feel heard, a deep sense of empathy, compassion, humor, and humility.
