Emma Carroll, CT

Emma Carroll (pronouns: she/her) is a counselor trainee who works with adolescents, adults, and couples. Her specialty interests include: gender and sexuality, maternal mental health, trauma, and anxiety, but she is curious about all aspects of the human experience. Emma utilizes evidence-based treatment approaches that integrate her academic background as a sociologist.

Emma completed her advanced education at Ithaca College, completing a bachelor's degree in sociology. She obtained a master's and doctoral degree in sociology at The Ohio State University, where she specialized in gender and sexuality. She is currently a master’s student at John Carroll University completing a degree in clinical mental health counseling.

Emma's approach to counseling integrates a non-judgmental and compassionate individual analysis with an examination of the larger social influences that shape client experiences. Her training as a sociologist emphasizes the way that cultural and institutional factors impact well-being, and she enables clients to both understand how their experiences are being shaped by larger forces and find agency within that. She prioritizes making people feel heard and creating a collaborative environment where she works with clients to define and achieve their goals.

Her strengths include: curiosity, open-mindedness, radical empathy, and the ability to meet people where they are.
