A social worker trainee (SWT) is graduate social worker student seeking licensure as a professional social worker. Social Worker Trainees have the same scope of practice as a professional social worker, but require much closer supervision during the training process.
Hannah McCrae (pronouns: she/her) is a social work trainee who works with adults. Her specialty interests include: girls' and women's issues, PTSD, and substance use. She utilizes treatment approaches that are client-centered and evidence-based.
Hannah completed her advanced education at the University of Michigan, earning a bachelor’s degree in gender and health. She is currently a master’s student at The University of Akron completing a degree in social work. Her advanced education has included specialized coursework in mental health, social determinants of health, and gender studies. She has a strong love of advocacy and lifetime learning.
Prior to joining Wellness Grove, Hannah worked in hospital and community health settings with diverse clients experiencing food insecurity and homelessness. These experiences promoted a deeper understanding of working with clients with complex psychosocial needs, trauma-informed care, interdisciplinary collaboration, and resource coordination.
Beyond her clinical work, Hannah is a volunteer at a local syringe exchange program and is a member of Stark County's Opiate and Addiction Task Force. This experience promotes a deeper understanding of substance use concerns, crisis intervention and risk awareness, and advocacy and community engagement. She also completed her first-year generalist experience at Wellness Grove which included research, volunteer work, and advocacy in the community.
Hannah's approach to counseling is trauma-informed and strength-based. She strives to empower clients and build trust in a supportive and empathetic environment. She is dedicated to fostering therapeutic relationships rooted in compassion, safety, and mutual respect. She believes healing and growth are best supported in environments where individuals feel heard, valued, and empowered.
Her strengths include empathy, openness, cultural humility, and a strong commitment to advocacy.
