A counselor trainee (CT) is a graduate counseling student seeking licensure as a professional counselor. Counselor Trainees have the same scope of practice as a professional counselor, but require much closer supervision during the training process.
Jamie Timms (pronouns: she/her) is a counselor trainee who works with adolescents and adults. Her specialty interests include: LGBTQ+ issues, trauma, anxiety, compulsive behaviors, and life transitions. She utilizes evidence-based treatment approaches while tailoring sessions to the needs of every individual.
Jamie completed her advanced education at Kent State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in music technology. She is currently a master’s student at her alma mater completing a degree in clinical mental health counseling. She has specialized coursework in motivational interviewing, multicultural counseling, and group work.
Prior to private practice, Jaimie served as a counselor-in-training at Kent State University’s Counseling Center. There she served clients struggling with life adjustment, anxiety, and depression.
She gained experience working in both community and hospital settings where she assisted individuals who have experienced homelessness and severe mental health struggles. She had the privilege of providing support and helping her clients navigate complicated systems while they take the necessary steps to improve their circumstances and their well-being.
Jamie’s approach to counseling is centered around a belief that everyone can make positive changes in their life when provided with a space to explore their values and develop their own authentic sense of self. By meeting clients where they are and by emphasizing the individual strengths of each person she works with, Jamie fosters a space that allows for personal growth and connection. She is known for listening intently to get to the root of what is holding her clients back from reaching their goals and living authentically. She utilizes a blend of cognitive-and-dialectical behavioral strategies as well as psychodynamic techniques to mitigate client distress.
Her strengths include: patience, compassion, and a tendency to see the best in others.
