A social worker trainee (SWT) is graduate social worker student seeking licensure as a professional social worker. Social Worker Trainees have the same scope of practice as a professional social worker, but require much closer supervision during the training process.
Jennifer Mills (pronouns: she/her) is a social worker trainee who works with individuals and families. Her special interests include: women's issues, mothers and postpartum, gender issues, body issues, self-esteem, and working with the LGBT community. She utilizes treatment approaches that are evidence-based and uniquely tailored to each client.
Jennifer completed her advanced education at The University of Akron, earning a bachelor’s degree in social work. She is currently a master’s student at Cleveland State University completing a degree in social work.
Prior to private joining Wellness Grove, Jennifer worked with diverse populations in community casework where she coordinated care for individuals who are HIV positive and worked with children and adults with disabilities in a mental health capacity. She has served in various LGBT advocacy and support groups.
Beyond her clinical work, Jennifer serves as a community case manager. This experience strengthens are care coordination, advocacy and client empowerment, and interprofessional collaboration skills. She is also a board member for Queer in Canton, an LGBT community center, which promotes her understanding of the LGBT community. Jennifer enjoys volunteer work through her local church.
Jennifer's clinical approach is strength-based and client-centered, focusing on building trust and honoring each person’s lived experience. She aims to create a calm, supportive environment where clients feel safe exploring their emotions at their own pace. She emphasizes compassion, curiosity, and partnership, working alongside clients rather than directing them. She values connection, empowerment, and helping clients recognize the resilience they already possess.
Her strengths include: empathy, humor, social intelligence, kindness, compassion, and the ability to see the bigger picture in life.
