Working Hours

A counselor trainee (CT) is a graduate counseling student seeking licensure as a professional counselor. Counselor Trainees have the same scope of practice as a professional counselor, but require much closer supervision during the training process.

Katie Scrimo (pronouns: she/her) is a counselor trainee who works with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. Her specialty interests include: girls’ and women’s issues, trauma, anxiety, depression, and adjustment issues. Katie’s approach to counseling is collaborative and she uses treatment approaches that are evidence-based and uniquely tailored to each client.

Katie completed her advanced education at The Ohio State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in psychology. She is currently a master’s student at Malone University completing a degree in clinical mental health counseling. Katie has a strong passion for continued education and desires to learn more each day.

Prior to her work in counseling, Katie gained valuable experience as a crisis intervention specialist at a youth crisis shelter. Throughout her time at the shelter, Katie provided direct supervision and crisis intervention services to young people and their families. During this time, she also volunteered for the Crisis Text Line where she worked remotely using crisis intervention skills to promote mood stabilization to distressed individuals.

Her past work has only strengthened her passion for counseling and built upon her desire to make a difference in the lives of her clients. Her experiences have made her more compassionate and empathetic, and she believes that makes her a better clinician.

Katie’s approach to counseling is collaborative in nature as she believes in creating a space where clients feel safe and encouraged to express their needs. She focuses on the client as a whole and emphasizes understanding the interactions between the mind and body to support holistic wellness. Guided by use of person-centered therapy and from evidence-based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), she aims to empower her clients and support them through every step of the counseling process. The most important thing to Katie is making sure that her clients feel supported, heard, and valued in every session.

Her strengths include: active listening, empathy, kindness, authenticity, compassion, patience, and the ability to adapt and change her approach based on the unique needs of each client.
