A Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist is a professional who uses recreation and other activities (like sports, art, music, community outings) to improve the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional health of people with illnesses or disabilities.
Krysta Wuertz (pronouns: she/her) is a licensed professional counselor who works with children, adolescents, and adults. Her specialty interests include: girls’ and women’s issues, anxiety, depression, grief, loss, and adjustment issues. She utilizes treatment approaches that are evidenced based, holistic, and unique to each client.
Krysta completed her advanced education earning her bachelor’s degree in science from the University of Findlay and her master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from Malone University. Krysta is pursuing additional training in women’s health issues and anxiety.
Prior to private practice, Krysta spent 20 years working as a Recreation Therapist in both inpatient and outpatient mental health facilities working across the lifespan and with special populations such as forensic mental health.
Beyond clinical work, Krysta spends time with her horses and family. She plans to incorporate horses into her future clinical work, including workshops and groups.
Krysta’s approach to counseling is client-centered. She focuses on the whole person and has been described as leaning into discomfort, empathy, and non-judgmental. Krysta is known for her collaboration with clients to find mindful and peaceful spots in their everyday lives. She is known for her love of expressive arts, games, and humor during sessions.
