A counselor trainee (CT) is a graduate counseling student seeking licensure as a professional counselor. Counselor Trainees have the same scope of practice as a professional counselor, but require much closer supervision during the training process.
Lane Howe (pronouns: she/her) is a counselor trainee who works with young adults, adults, and older adults. Her specialty interests include: attention/concentration deficits, anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, women’s issues, and the use of creative approaches to support healing and personal growth. She utilizes evidence-based treatment approaches and tailors her counseling style to meet the unique needs, strengths, and goals of each client.
Lane completed her advanced education at John Carroll University, earning a bachelor’s degree in psychology. She is currently a master’s student at her alma mater completing a degree in clinical mental health counseling. Her coursework has included education in clinical diagnosis and psychopathology, tests and measurements, counseling theories, and counseling techniques. Through her academic training, she continues to deepen her knowledge of evidence-based practices and develop the clinical skills necessary to support clients across the lifespan.
Beyond her clinical work, Lane has volunteer experience in tutoring programs with local schools, supporting students in strengthening academic skills and building confidence in learning. She has also volunteered with the Conversation Club through YouthAbility, where she supported individuals with learning impairments in developing conversational and social communication skills.
Lane’s approach is rooted in the belief that meaningful growth occurs within a supportive, authentic, and nonjudgmental therapeutic relationship where clients feel heard, valued, and empowered. She utilizes person-centered therapy and incorporates CBT techniques to help clients identify and challenge unhelpful thought patterns and develop healthier coping strategies. Lane is known for using a practical strengths-based approach mixed with humor in sessions.
Her strengths include: empathy, kindness, strong communication skills, and a deep appreciation for the little things in life.
