MARIAH NELSON, CT

Mariah Nelson(pronouns: she/her) is a counselor trainee who works with adolescents and adults. Her specialty interests include: anxiety disorders, mood disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, grief and loss issues, and trauma-specific disorders. She utilizes treatment approaches that are evidence-based and uniquely tailored to each client, along with bringing creativity into counseling sessions as desired.

Mariah received her bachelor’s degree in human resource management at Baker College, where she took a psychology course that led her down a new path. She is currently in the process of earning her master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling at Walsh University. Mariah is trained in suicide prevention, mental health first aid, and is currently CPR certified. Mariah has a love for helping others.

Prior to Wellness Grove, Mariah interned at a community agency where she worked with children and adolescents shadowing therapists and helping to facilitate prevention groups. She currently works as a relationship banker, helping others with their financial needs and learning the importance of building relationships based on trust.

Mariah’s approach to counseling is collaborative with a teamwork approach because she believes that everyone deserves to have emotional support in order to gain personal growth and find happiness. She believes in getting to know each person on an individual level through person centered therapy. Mariah also favors cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), narrative therapy, and expressive arts therapy.

Her strengths include: kindness, open-mindedness, patience, humor, creativity, and endless empathy for others.
