A licensed professional counselor (LPC) is a mental health provider who holds a master’s or doctoral degree in counseling and who has met all requirements set forth by the state licensure board to provide quality mental health care.

Martha Gotham (pronouns: she/they) is a licensed professional counselor who works with adolescents, adults, and families. Her specialty interests include: adjustment, anxiety and depression, girls’ and women’s issues, gender issues, LGBTQIA+ topics, and integrating narrative processing and expressive therapies into counseling practice. They utilize treatment approaches that are evidence-based and tailored to each client.

Martha completed her bachelor’s degree at Kent State University in Psychology with a concentration in Counseling Careers in 2022. She completed her master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Kent State University in 2025. She loves to learn everything she can about the people and world around her.

Prior to private practice, Martha had the opportunity to work with diverse clients in community mental health agencies. Working in community mental health has diversified their approach and taught them to be adaptable to many kinds of situations.

Martha focuses on issues related not only to community work but to the individual as well. In her practicum experience at Kent State University, they worked with clients who were concerned with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, body image issues, relational and family issues, and career counseling.

Martha utilizes a narrative and emotion-focused approach in which she encourages her clients to tell their life stories in a way that makes them feel good. She also utilizes motivational interviewing as she believes encouraging a client’s strengths helps them to be the best person they can be in the world. She encourages clients to discover and explore within themselves, as she knows the client has the answer to their concerns…they just may not know it yet! Martha values compassion and emotional validation when working with clients.

Her strengths include: empathy, kindness, collaboration, a love of learning, humor, and seeing joy in life.
