A counselor trainee (CT) is a graduate counseling student seeking licensure as a professional counselor. Counselor Trainees have the same scope of practice as a professional counselor, but require much closer supervision during the training process.
Nickalaus (Nick) Pryor (pronouns: he/him) is a clinical intern with CT status who works with adolescents, adults, and families. His specialty interests include: anxiety, emotional well-being, relationship challenges, family dynamics, and adjustment issues.
Nick earned his bachelor’s degree in communications and a master’s degree in educational technology, which has provided a strong foundation for understanding interpersonal communication and utilizing technology to enhance learning and growth. He is currently pursuing a second master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling at Walsh University.
Before his work in counseling, Nick gained valuable experience in leadership, mentoring, and community engagement.
He has over 15 years of professional experience in operations, training, and customer service, where he honed his interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Additionally, Nick served as a football coach and a volunteer for initiatives like the African American Employee Resource Group and the Diversity Council for Dominion Energy, fostering inclusive environments and supporting community growth.
Beyond his clinical and professional roles, Nick actively participates in volunteer efforts, such as the Annual Adopt a Family Toy Drive and local diversity initiatives. His coaching background and volunteer work reflect his commitment to mentorship, teamwork, and supporting individuals from all walks of life. These experiences have shaped his relational and compassionate approach to counseling. He utilizes treatment techniques rooted in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness-based practices, and person-centered approaches.
His strengths include: strong interpersonal communication, problem-solving, and the ability to connect authentically with others.
