A licensed professional counselor (LPC) is a mental health provider who holds a master’s or doctoral degree in counseling and who has met all requirements set forth by the state licensure board to provide quality mental health care.

The second “C” (LPC“C”) denotes advanced clinical experience and knowledge as required by the state licensure board that allows for independent practice (meaning, without the need for supervision).

The “S” (LPCC-“S”) denotes advanced experience and knowledge in clinical supervision as required by the state licensure board that allows for supervision of LPCs and counselors-in-training.

Shannon Woodard (pronouns: she/her) is an experienced licensed professional clinical counselor-supervisor who works with adults, teens, couples, and families. Her specialty interests include: trauma, anxiety, depression, communication and conflict resolution, self-criticism, and self-esteem issues. She utilizes treatment approaches that are evidence-based and focus on improving mood and mental stability by increasing the use of healthy thinking patterns.

Shannon earned her bachelor's degree at Chapman University in psychology. She went on to earn her master's degree from Malone University in clinical mental health counseling. Shannon has extensive training in providing trauma-informed care to clients which includes utilizing cognitive processing therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, interpersonal therapy, and client-centered therapy.

Shannon has worked extensively over the course of 18 years in the mental health field; she provided crisis interventions and worked in substance abuse treatment centers, private practice and with clients who were incarcerated. She has worked with a diverse population including clients with severe complex trauma, personality disorders, prior legal involvement, anger management issues, and severe depressive disorders.

She has provided group therapy to a diverse population of clients including facilitating trauma groups, men's only groups, women's only groups, and anger management groups. In addition, she has 8 years of experience providing clinical supervision to dependently licensed clinicians. She enjoys collaborating with new clinicians in order to assist them with growing and developing their clinical skills to treat mental and emotional disorders and achieve independent licensure. Previously, she served as clinical supervisor over two locations at once for both individual and group supervision to all clinical staff.

Shannon's approach to counseling is providing evidenced based therapies and trauma-informed practices. She provides cognitive processing therapy to assist clients with processing their traumatic memories and develop coping strategies along with cognitive behavioral therapy to assist clients with focusing on changing dysfunctional thought patterns and behaviors to improve emotional well-being. Her belief is that her greatest skill as a clinician is providing unconditional positive regard and a safe space for clients to process their thoughts and feelings without judgement. Shannon enjoys providing encouragement to clients to promote self-growth and positive change.

Her strengths include: compassion, authenticity, providing support, and empowering clients to reach their goals.
