A licensed professional counselor (LPC) is a mental health provider who holds a master’s or doctoral degree in counseling and who has met all requirements set forth by the state licensure board to provide quality mental health care.

The second “C” (LPC“C”) denotes advanced clinical experience and knowledge as required by the state licensure board that allows for independent practice (meaning, without the need for supervision).

The “S” (LPCC-“S”) denotes advanced experience and knowledge in clinical supervision as required by the state licensure board that allows for supervision of LPCs and counselors-in-training.

Shannon Woodard (pronouns: she/her) is an experienced licensed professional clinical counselor-supervisor who works with adults, couples, and families. Her specialty interests include: trauma, communication and conflict resolution, self-criticism, self-esteem, and substance use issues. She utilizes treatment approaches that are evidence-based and focus on improving mood and mental stability by increasing the use of healthy thinking patterns.

Shannon earned her bachelor’s degree at Chapman University in psychology. She went on to earn her master’s degree from Malone University in clinical mental health counseling. In addition to her advanced education, Shannon has extensive training in addiction treatment to include utilizing motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral therapy, assessing and making clinical decisions about the appropriate level of care for clients, and designing relapse prevention plans.

Prior to private practice, Shannon has worked extensively over the course of 15 years in community substance abuse treatment settings.
