Working Hours

A counselor trainee (CT) is a graduate counseling student seeking licensure as a professional counselor. Counselor Trainees have the same scope of practice as a professional counselor, but require much closer supervision during the training process.

Shatora “Tori” Magna (she/her) is a counselor trainee who is dedicated to helping individuals navigate life’s challenges while staying true to who they are. Her clinical interests include anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, substance use disorders and recovery, relationship concerns, emotional regulation, and personal growth. She is passionate about creating a supportive, nonjudgmental space where individuals feel heard, respected, and empowered throughout their journey. Tori takes a person-centered, strengths-based, and solution-focused approach tailored to each client’s unique goals and needs.

Tori earned her bachelor’s degree in organizational leadership with a minor in communications from Cleveland State University. She is also currently pursuing a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling at John Carroll University. Her graduate training has strengthened her knowledge of evidence-based counseling practices, ethics, trauma-informed care, assessment, substance use treatment, and multicultural counseling. Tori is committed to lifelong learning and continually expanding her knowledge to provide the highest quality care for those she serves.

Her professional experience includes serving veterans through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and supporting individuals with developmental disabilities in community-based settings. These roles have allowed Tori to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds while strengthening her skills in advocacy, communication, crisis response, and person-centered care. Tori’s experiences continue to shape her commitment to meeting clients where they are and supporting them with compassion and respect.

In addition to being a counselor trainee, Tori is also a registered yoga teacher (RYT 200). Over the years, she has seen how yoga can support not only physical wellness but also mental clarity, stress management, and emotional resilience. She also promotes holistic wellness practices that may be beneficial to the therapeutic journey when appropriate.

Tori's approach to counseling is collaborative, compassionate, and rooted in authenticity. She believes every person deserves a space where they can show up exactly as they are without fear of judgment. She focuses on building off client strengths, exploring practical strategies, and working toward meaningful change at a pace that feels right for each client. Her goal is to help her clients feel empowered, supported, and confident as they navigate life’s challenges.

Her strengths include self-awareness, empathy, effective communication, adaptability, authenticity, and the ability to build trusting relationships while empowering clients to recognize their strengths and move toward meaningful change.
