A licensed professional counselor (LPC) is a mental health provider who holds a master’s or doctoral degree in counseling and who has met all requirements set forth by the state licensure board to provide quality mental health care.

The second “C” (LPC“C”) denotes advanced clinical experience and knowledge as required by the state licensure board that allows for independent practice (meaning, without the need for supervision).

A Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant (CDCA) is a professional who has earned certification from the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board to assist individuals seeking services for addiction.

Thomas Deiotte Jr. (pronouns: he/him) is an experienced licensed professional clinical counselor who works with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. He utilizes treatment approaches that are eclectic, evidence-based, and uniquely tailored to each client.

Thomas completed his advanced education at Cleveland State University, earning an Educational Specialist degree (post-master’s) in clinical mental health as well as earning graduate certificates in early childhood mental health counseling and behavioral consultation (ECMH) and chemical dependency. Thomas earned his Master of Education in school counseling from John Carroll University and a Bachelor of Arts in sociology from Xavier University.

Prior to private practice, Thomas worked with diverse clients in community mental health settings. Over the last 5 years, he has had many opportunities providing psychotherapeutic treatment with individuals that has contributed to successful life outcomes.

Beyond his clinical work, Thomas has nearly 20 years of experience working in case management for the State of Ohio with youth and families. In these roles he provided necessary services addressing child abuse and/or neglect as well as trauma-based services. He has remained committed to fostering growth and resiliency among individuals who have aversive experiences in their lives.

Thomas’ approach to counseling is humanistic in nature focusing on the person and developing a mutual relationship within the counseling environment that is based on congruence, unconditional positive regard, and empathetic understanding. In addition to using a Rogerian approach, Thomas pulls his theoretical practice within counseling from several approaches that include psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, rational-emotive behavioral, solution-focused, and family therapies.

His strengths include: an appreciation for each person and who they are as an individual, being socially responsive and having a positive outlook on life, and the personal belief in change that anyone can achieve their desired outcome in life.
