A counselor trainee (CT) is a graduate counseling student seeking licensure as a professional counselor. Counselor Trainees have the same scope of practice as a professional counselor, but require much closer supervision during the training process.
Alaina Smith (pronouns: she/her) is a counselor trainee who works with children, adolescents, adults, and couples. Her specialty interests include: anxiety, first responder issues, gender issues, life transitions, military issues, mindfulness, and substance use. She utilizes treatment approaches that incorporate mindfulness and are strength-based and compassion-focused.
Alaina completed her advanced education at Cleveland State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in international relations. She is currently a master’s student at Walsh University completing a degree in clinical mental health counseling.
Alaina is a compassionate and collaborative counselor who believes that clients deserve a supportive space to build on their strengths and move toward meaningful change. Her approach to counseling is integrative and client-centered, drawing from narrative therapy, mindfulness practices, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and coaching. Alaina prioritizes supportive and nonjudgmental listening and has a deep respect for the diverse experiences of her clients.
