ABIGAIL SCHURMAN, CT

Abigail Schurman (pronouns: she/her) is a counselor trainee who works with adolescents, adults, couples, and families. Her specialty interests include: anxiety, depression, adjustment and life transitions, relational issues, and coping skills. She utilizes treatment approaches that are evidence-based and uniquely tailored to each client.

Abigail completed her advanced education at John Carroll University, earning a bachelor’s degree in psychology. She is currently a master’s student at her alma mater completing a degree in clinical mental health counseling. She has a passion for learning and a strong desire to continuously improve her counseling practices.

Prior to private practice, Abigail worked as a helpline intern at NAMI Greater Cleveland where she provided mental health resources to diverse populations.

This has contributed to her passion for helping others and her desire to continue expanding her skills and knowledge as a clinician.

Abigail’s approach to counseling is warm, supportive, and client-centered. She believes in creating a space where clients feel comfortable expressing themselves and exploring their concerns at their own pace. Abigail is drawn to using active listening, reflection, and gentle guidance to assist clients deepen understanding of themselves. She is known for using motivational interviewing, person-centered approaches, and cognitive behavioral techniques in sessions.

Her strengths include: empathy, compassion, active listening, love of learning, social intelligence, and the flexibility to adjust approaches based on the client’s needs.
