A counselor trainee (CT) is graduate counseling student seeking licensure as a professional counselor. Counselor Trainees have the same scope of practice as a professional counselor, but require much closer supervision during the training process.

Madeline Fechheimer (pronouns: she/they) is a clinical intern with CT status who works with adolescents and adults. Their specialty interests include autism, trauma and PTSD, self-harm, anxiety, and wellness. They embrace a person-centered approach that integrates cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and other evidence-based treatments into sessions with clients.

Madeline completed her bachelors of studio art degree at Kent State University in Stark. She is currently working towards a masters degree in clinical mental health counseling at Lindsey Wilson College. Madeline has taken specialized coursework in trauma informed care and substance use issues. Her expected graduation date is August 2024.

Prior to private practice, Madeline has been involved in the mental health field at a community social center that provides group outings, peer support, and opportunities for creative expression to individuals experiencing mental health issues.

At their previous practicum site Madeline had the opportunity to work with many diverse clients to help identify, examine, and treat issues related to neurodivergence, self-esteem/self-worth, anxiety, depression, interpersonal conflict, and suicidal ideation.

Madeline is passionate in her role as an advocate for mental health and within her relationships with clients. She believes that everyone can benefit from counseling and actively works towards de-stigmatizing mental health overall. Madeline creates an environment that is safe, warm, and full of genuine connection. Her approach to counseling is person-centered and integrates other therapies such as solution-focused and cognitive behavioral therapy. Madeline believes counseling is a collaborative effort and is built on honesty, mutual respect, encouragement, and motivation.

Her strengths include: empathy, open-mindedness, honesty, compassion, humor, and optimism.
