A counselor trainee (CT) is a graduate counseling student seeking licensure as a professional counselor. Counselor Trainees have the same scope of practice as a professional counselor, but require much closer supervision during the training process.

A Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor license III (LCDCIII) gives the authority to practice substance use disorder counseling, along with diagnosing substance use disorder conditions, under supervision.

Michele Carpenter (pronouns: she/her) is a counselor trainee and licensed chemical dependency counselor III who works with adults and couples. Her specialty interests include: substance use issues, women’s issues, crisis intervention, emotion regulation, trauma, anxiety, and depression. She utilizes both evidence-based and client-centered treatment approaches.

Michele earned her bachelor’s degree in behavioral health sciences at Cleveland State University. She is currently a master’s student at Malone University completing a degree in clinical mental health counseling.

Prior to private practice, Michele spent years in community substance abuse treatment centers.

These experiences have contributed to her passion for helping others and her desire to continue expanding her skills and knowledge as she continues to grow as a counselor. She has experience in crisis intervention, group therapy, and working closely with court-appointed clients.

Michele’s approach to counseling is a collaborative. She aims to empower clients to know their worth, foster an environment of safety, and build a therapeutic alliance to allow for deeper processing and healing. She is known for using motivational interviewing (MI), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). She has also received training in sand tray therapy.

Her strengths include: empathy, vulnerability, compassion, and authenticity in the therapeutic process.
