
A counselor trainee (CT) is a graduate counseling student seeking licensure as a professional counselor. Counselor Trainees have the same scope of practice as a professional counselor, but require much closer supervision during the training process.
Isabella (Izzy) Armentrout (pronouns: she/her) is a counselor trainee who works with children, adolescents, and adults. Her specialty interests include: life transitions, anxiety, stress, self-esteem, depression, and integrating holistic wellness into treatment. She utilizes evidence-based and client-centered treatment approaches, uniquely tailored to the needs of her clients.
Izzy completed her advanced education at The Ohio State University earning a bachelor’s degree in criminology and criminal justice studies and a minor in clinical psychology and individual differences. She is currently a master’s student at John Carroll University completing a degree in clinical mental health counseling with a concentration in substance use disorders. She is a forever student who values evolving, growth, and lifelong learning as essential to serving others.
Prior to private practice, Izzy worked in a community-based outpatient counseling setting where she served clients in low socioeconomic areas.
Her background in leadership, wellness, and customer-focused environments has strengthened her ability to build rapport, communicate effectively, and respond with empathy to diverse client needs. These experiences continue to shape her approach and commitment to accessible mental health care.
Izzy’s approach to counseling is primarily client-centered, while integrating structured, evidence-based interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) when appropriate. She strives to create a nonjudgmental and supportive space where clients feel safe, seen, and empowered in their growth. Izzy values collaboration and flexibility in the therapeutic process, meeting clients where they are. She is known for incorporating humor, pop-culture references, psychoeducation, and creative expression, including art, in sessions.
