A counselor trainee (CT) is a graduate counseling student seeking licensure as a professional counselor. Counselor Trainees have the same scope of practice as a professional counselor, but require much closer supervision during the training process.
Julia (Jules) Newbould (pronouns: she/her) is a counselor trainee who works with teens, emerging adults, and adults. Her specialty interests include: trauma, stress, anxiety and depression, movement and energy, life transitions, relationship and communication barriers, self-empowerment, and helping clients find a sense of purpose and joy. She utilizes evidence-based treatment approaches tailored to each client in a non-judgmental and accepting way.
Jules completed her advanced education at Baldwin Wallace with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a minor in criminal justice. She is currently a master’s student at her alma mater completing a degree in clinical mental health counseling. She also enjoys keeping up to date with current psychological research involving nutrition, movement, trauma recovery, and mindfulness.
Prior to private practice, Jules ran dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) groups at a pediatric psychiatric facility.
While running these groups, she learned several useful tools to help in her practice including creativity techniques that can be practiced in therapy sessions or used as homework assignments. She has experience incorporating watercolor, scrapbooking, paint, journaling, poetry, origami, and crafting into sessions.
Jules’s approach to counseling is client-centered, with techniques borrowed from existential therapy, DBT, and mindfulness-based practices. She helps clients foster a healthy relationship within themselves, overcome past hardships, navigate the present moment, and develop healthy coping skills, all while utilizing several therapeutic techniques. She believes that change is possible for anyone and that happiness can be found even in the most difficult of life circumstances.
Her strengths include: empathy, warmth, a passion for learning, and unconditional positive regard.
