The second “C” (LPC“C”) denotes advanced clinical experience and knowledge as required by the state licensure board that allows for independent practice (meaning, without the need for supervision).

A Registered Art Therapist (ATR) is a mental health provider who holds a master’s or doctoral degree in art therapy and who has met qualifying graduate-level education and training outlined by the Art Therapy Credentials Board (ATCB) to provide quality therapy and healing using media and the creative process.

Carly Chapman (pronouns: she/her) is an experienced licensed professional counselor and registered art therapist who works with children, adolescents, young adults, and adults. Her specialty interests include: trauma, self-esteem, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, and integrating creativity and positive psychology into counseling practice. She utilizes treatment approaches that are evidence-based and uniquely tailored to each client.

Carly earned her bachelor’s degree in studio art with a minor in psychology from The University of Akron. She completed her master’s degree in counseling and art therapy at Ursuline College. Carly is passionate about learning, especially from others, and loves to incorporate the arts into self-discovery. She believes all art is meaningful and loves to assist clients in discovering their own meanings behind their art. Carly is enthusiastic about using diverse expressive tools such as collage, sculpture, writing, and movement to help clients reflect, process, and connect with themselves on their personal journey towards healing.

Prior to joining Wellness Grove, Carly has worked in a private practice setting for almost 2 years. She has worked with teens and adults managing symptoms of anxiety, depression, PTSD, and life changes. She completed an internship at Akron Children’s Hospital, where she facilitated art therapy- open studio groups, staff support groups, and bedside art therapy. Carly has received specialized training in Emotional Support Animal (ESA) letter writing. Carly is currently working towards becoming a board-certified art therapist and continues to seek opportunities for professional growth to help clients achieve their mental health and wellness goals.

Carly’s approach to counseling is relational, non-judgmental, and reality-based because she believes that growth, wellness, and healing are rooted in authenticity, collaboration, and mutual respect. In addition to being a compassionate listener, she understands the importance of a strong therapeutic alliance and creates space for clients to share comfortably, vulnerably, and safely. She is known for using creativity, humor, psychoeducation, and metaphors in sessions.

Her strengths include: empathy, compassion, curiosity, self-reflection, creativity, and integrating humor into therapy sessions.
