DUSTIN SMITH, LSW

Dustin Smith (pronouns: he/him) is an experienced licensed social worker who works with adolescents and adults. His specialties include: trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder, substance use issues, wellness, academic issues, anxiety, and depression. He utilizes treatment approaches that are evidence-based and uniquely tailored to each client.

Dustin earned both his master’s and bachelor’s degree in social work from The University of Akron. He took specialized coursework in mental health and addiction. He also has training in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, an approach that facilitates healing from trauma and other adverse life experiences. He has a strong passion for continued education and learning.

Prior to private practice, Dustin has spent the last four years working with diverse groups of clients in the community mental health setting, both inpatient and outpatient. He has worked with clients who have experienced mental health and substance use issues, particularly those who have trauma experiences. Dustin gained his experience by providing counseling services to a diverse age range of clients in group and individual settings.

Dustin’s approach to counseling is putting clients first and making them feel in charge of their own treatment. He believes that a positive therapeutic relationship includes rapport, trust, and feeling that you can be your authentic self. He is known for using humor, psychoeducation, and mindfulness activities in sessions.
