A licensed social worker (LSW) is a mental health provider who holds a master’s or doctoral degree in social work and who has met all requirements set forth by the state licensure board to provide quality mental health care under supervision.
Chantelle Butler (pronouns: she/her) is a licensed social worker who works with adolescents, adults, couples, and families. Her specialty interests include: girls’ and women’s issues, perinatal and postpartum issues, geriatric and aging issues, anxiety, depression, trauma, and personality disorders. She is passionate about integrating creativity and positive psychology into counseling practice, as well as treatment approaches that are evidence-based and uniquely tailored to each client.
Chantelle has had a strong passion for helping people since her childhood. Combining this with her love of the arts, she began her educational journey at Ursuline College with an interest in art therapy. After learning more about the mental health field, she switched to pursuing social work with a minor in American Sign Language. Chantelle completed her social work education at The University of Akron, earning a bachelor’s and master’s degree in social work.
Prior to private practice, Chantelle worked as a caregiver for older adults and persons with developmental disabilities in both residential and in-home settings. She has served in faith-based adolescent counseling for over 10 years, and developed a love for women and girls’ issues through her work with teens. During her undergraduate years, Chantelle worked extensively with women dealing with adoption and postpartum difficulties as well as children in foster care and adoption situations. Her work during her graduate training has consisted of clinical counseling in a variety of mental health capacities.
Chantelle’s approach to counseling is relational and emotion-focused because she believes that personal growth is the result of empowering connections that are rooted in safety, authenticity, vulnerability, and mutual respect. Chantelle places a high value on humility and therapeutic partnership, believing that each person is the expert on themselves. In addition to being an empathetic listener, she is a collaborative strength-builder and problem-solver. She is known for using art therapy, cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), and mindfulness-based therapy in sessions.
Her strengths include: kindness, empathy, adaptability, communication, love of learning, emotional intelligence, and the ability to see small steps to achieve larger goals.
