A licensed professional counselor (LPC) is a mental health provider who holds a master’s or doctoral degree in counseling and who has met all requirements set forth by the state licensure board to provide quality mental health care.
Sarah Amatangelo (pronouns: she/her) is a licensed professional counselor who works with adolescents and adults. Her specialty interests include: LGBTQIA+ issues, trauma & PTSD, self-harm issues, and wellness. She uses a person-centered approach that integrates evidence-based practices in her work with clients.
Sarah completed a dual master’s degree in expressive arts therapy and counseling at West Liberty University in May 2025. She completed her bachelor of studio arts degree at Kent State University at Stark.
Prior to private practice, Sarah has been involved in volunteer work and the pursuit of higher learning. She volunteers her time and creative action for the Born this Way Foundation, The Trevor Project, Do Something, To Write Love on Her Arms, and the Autism Self Advocacy Network.
In her work as a tattooist, she has participated in Project Semi-Colon. While working toward her masters Sarah has excelled in courses to include: Materials & Techniques of Art Therapy, Social & Cultural Foundations, Creativity, Symbolism, and Metaphor & Spirituality.
Sarah’s approach to counseling is person-focused and rooted in the healing power of art. She believes that her role as counselor is to support client growth through sense of self and decision-making while sharing helpful techniques and creative solutions that support autonomy. Sarah values the use of unconditional positive regard, empathy, and a path toward congruence. She is fond of using humor, psychoeducation, psychodrama, and other arts-based practices.
Her strengths include: creativity, open-mindedness, problem-solving and a positive outlook on all the world has to offer.
