A licensed professional counselor (LPC) is a mental health provider who holds a master’s or doctoral degree in counseling and who has met all requirements set forth by the state licensure board to provide quality mental health care.
Holly Palmer (pronouns: she/her) is an experienced licensed professional counselor who works with children, adolescents, and adults. Her specialty interests include: anxiety, depression, bipolar disorders, trauma/PTSD, and neurodevelopmental disorders. She utilizes treatment approaches that are evidence-based and uniquely tailored to each client.
Holly completed her bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in criminal justice studies at Kent State University. She continued her advanced education at The University of Akron, earning a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling. Holly also took specialized coursework in traumatology and personality disorders. She has a strong love of lifetime learning. Holly is an active member of her counseling program’s chapter of the international and professional academic honor society for counselors (Chi Sigma Iota, Alpha Upsilon chapter).
Prior to private practice, Holly has worked with diverse clients in community mental health settings. Utilizing eclectic techniques, her focus centers on the client and the client’s needs.
Beyond her clinical work, Holly has served as a volunteer at Pegasus Farm in Hartville, Ohio working with children and adults with disabilities and veterans with PTSD. These roles fulfill her calling to advocate for individuals with mental health issues. Holly also apart of OWEP-ITI initiative for which she received specialized clinical training working with children and families impacted by opioid use disorders and other substance use disorders.
Holly’s approach to counseling is person-centered with influences of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) because she believes that meeting the client where they are at, and looking at the world through their perspective, are important for quality care. Central to her approach are the use of empathetic listening and CBT techniques to help client’s develop healthier thinking patterns about themselves, their relationships, and the world. In addition to being a non-judgmental, compassionate listener, she prides herself on being a forever learner. She is known for using humor, psychoeducation, and metaphors in sessions.
Her strengths include: kindness, work ethic, attention to detail, compassion, empathy, humor, and depth of experience in dealing with individuals in their most difficult times.
