A licensed professional counselor (LPC) is a mental health provider who holds a master’s or doctoral degree in counseling and who has met all requirements set forth by the state licensure board to provide quality mental health care.

Hunter Garbe (pronouns: she/her) is an experienced licensed professional counselor (LPC) who works with children, adolescents, and young adults. Her specialty interests include: trauma, ADHD, depression, anxiety, self-esteem, relationship concerns, stress, conflict management and communication, and utilizing creativity into the therapeutic setting. She utilizes treatment approaches that are evidence-based and uniquely tailored to each client. Her treatment approaches are often based on narrative theory, acceptance and commitment theory (ACT), creative-based interventions, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and somatic or polyvagal theory.

Hunter Garbe completed her advanced education at Kent State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a concentration in counseling careers and a minor in music. She completed her graduate level education at The University of Akron earning a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling. She also earned a graduate certificate in counseling children and adolescents and has received training in trauma-informed care, dialectical behavior therapy, and crisis intervention. Hunter is a current member of Chi Sigma Iota (the international honors society for professional counselors) and the Ohio Counseling Association. She has a strong love of lifetime learning both inside and outside of mental health.

Prior to private practice, Hunter Garbe has worked in a community mental health setting for 3 years as a crisis hotline worker, case manager, and counselor trainee. She worked with individuals presenting in crisis and provided support and resources appropriate for each unique circumstance.

Hunter then transitioned into a therapy role where she facilitated multiple groups including coping skills, creative interventions, and adolescent day treatment as well as meeting with individuals between the ages of 5-62.

Beyond her clinical work, Hunter has conducted observations within preschools to assess potential mood and behavior concerns. She has also provided educational presentations in middle school and high school level classes regarding depression, anxiety, trauma, substance use issues, and intimate partner violence.

Hunter’s approach to counseling is relational and emotion-focused because she believes that personal growth is the result of empowering connections that are rooted in safety, authenticity, vulnerability, and mutual respect. In addition to being a non-judgmental, compassionate listener she is a collaborative strength-builder and problem-solver. She is known for using humor, psychoeducation, metaphors, and the creative arts in sessions. She is also known for using trauma-informed care and collaboration to empower clients in their journey of growth and wellness.

Her strengths include: kindness, love of learning, humor, empathy, and creativity.
