A licensed professional counselor (LPC) is a mental health provider who holds a master’s or doctoral degree in counseling and who has met all requirements set forth by the state licensure board to provide quality mental health care.

The second “C” (LPC“C”) denotes advanced clinical experience and knowledge as required by the state licensure board that allows for independent practice (meaning, without the need for supervision).

Lindsay West (pronouns: she/her) is an experienced licensed professional clinical counselor who works with children, adolescents, and adults. Her specialty interests include: eating disorders, substance use disorders, trauma, anxiety, and depression. She utilizes treatment approaches that are evidence-based and uniquely tailored to each client.

Lindsay completed her advanced education at The University of Phoenix, earning a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in nutrition from Kent State University. She has a strong love of lifetime learning. Through her start in nutritional education, Lindsay has gained an appreciation for providing holistic approaches in her work with clients.

Prior to private practice, Lindsay has worked with diverse clients in hospital, rehab, private practice, and community mental health settings. She has worked with individuals from ages 4 to 107 years old who have experienced substance use and nutrition-related issues, as well as clients who have experienced eating disorders. Lindsay currently holds a certification in level 1 eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy.

During Lindsay’s undergraduate training in nutrition, she spent time volunteering for multicultural body positivity groups. Part of her role in these groups was providing educational presentations and resources to help alter clients’ unhealthy behavioral and thinking patterns. Lindsay also founded the Valley Girls Disc Golf Club with a mission of bringing women in Mahoning County together, and promoting a sense of empowerment, through sport participation.

Lindsay’s approach to counseling is putting clients first and making them feel in charge of their own treatment. Lindsay uses encouragement and validation in empowering clients to take control of their life story through motivational interviewing (MI). She develops connections with clients that are rooted in safety, authenticity, vulnerability, and mutual respect. In addition to being a non-judgmental, empathic, and compassionate listener, she works collaboratively with others and is known for using humor, coping skills, psychoeducation, and metaphors in sessions.

Her strengths include: kindness, empathy, compassion, drive, love of learning, social intelligence, and the ability to see the bigger picture in life.
