A licensed professional counselor (LPC) is a mental health provider who holds a master’s or doctoral degree in counseling and who has met all requirements set forth by the state licensure board to provide quality mental health care.

The second “C” (LPC“C”) denotes advanced clinical experience and knowledge as required by the state licensure board that allows for independent practice (meaning, without the need for supervision).

The “S” (LPCC-“S”) denotes advanced experience and knowledge in clinical supervision as required by the state licensure board that allows for supervision of LPCs and counselors-in-training.

Brittany Franklin (pronouns: she/her) is a licensed professional clinical counselor supervisor who works with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. Her specialty interests include: multicultural competence, parenting, working with oppressed populations, and recognizing the importance of validating clients’ experiences and feelings.

Brittany completed her bachelor’s degree at Marshall University in psychology. She furthered her education at Capella University, earning a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling. Brittany finds continuing education extremely important while working in the profession of counseling.

Prior to working as a licensed professional clinical counselor, Brittany was focused on gaining experiences and specialization in the field of substance use counseling. She has been in the field of substance use counseling for over 10 years.

Throughout her work, she has recognized the importance of continuing her education in mental health. She believes that a client can have mental health struggles without addiction, but they can’t have addiction without mental health struggles.

Beyond her clinical work, Brittany has taught courses at the University of Rio Grande and Rio Grande Community College. These courses have focused on the basics of mental health, as well as requirements for earning the CDCA (Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant) certification.

Brittany’s approach to counseling is based on co-creating an authentic, honest, and safe space with clients as they experience their healing journey.

Her strengths include: empathy; providing a non-judgmental space; and being able to work with anyone, no matter what they look like, who they love, or what they believe in.
